In 2005 it was 60 years since the end of World War II.  The Tell Us Your Story Program seeked out those men and women who fought, helped or dedicated their services during wartime and asked them to record their stories for future generations.

In announcing this initiative, former Premier Geoff Gallop said the anniversary of the end of World War II was an event we should all commemorate, as most of the survivors of this conflict are now aged 80 or beyond.  This will be an ideal opportunity to remember and recognise the enormous contribution that generation has made to Australia.  As well as the role of those who served in the armed forces, this program seeks out the stories of those women who looked after their returned husbands, brothers or fathers, or who entered the workforce for the first time and who never received any acknowledgement.

The Tell Us Your Story Program involved inviting people to submit a story in writing about their personal wartime experiences - either of battle, friendship or a contribution made on the home front. A selection are posted on the ANZAC website so that many Western Australians can read how our citizens fought, helped or dedicated their services during a tumultuous time.

All essays are lodged with the Battye Library as a rich resource for students and researchers in the future.
